Charter School in Houston, Texas

Background of Dr. David C. Fuller

Superintendent

As a first-year teacher, David taught eighth-grade math in the Prince George's County Public School System in Clinton, Maryland. In 1995, he moved to Houston, Texas, to attend the Thurgood Marshall School of Law. After his first year, he returned to education as a seventh-grade math teacher for the Houston Independent School District (HISD).

In 1998, he was selected to represent his school as the Teacher of the Year.  After three years in the classroom, he accepted a position as the Director of the Gifted and Talented Program at the Varnett School. After this, in 1999, David earned his Master's Degree in Education Administration from Prairie View A & M University. In 2000, he became the elementary principal at The Honor Roll School in Sugarland, Texas.

In 2001, as a co-founder and principal, he opened the doors of Accelerated Intermediate Academy (AIA), an open-enrollment Texas charter school. During his tenure as the Chief Academic Officer, the approximate enrollment was 700 students. The school provides educational programs from sixth to eighth grade. In 2003, the school added pre-kindergarten to fifth grade. To date, this endeavor is David's most important accomplishment as he continues to strive to create educational experiences that are not only good, but great.

In 2004, David received his Doctorate Degree in Education from Nova Southeastern University. As a consumer of knowledge, Dr. Fuller is committed to excellence. His whole life is dedicated to inspiring others to take charge of their situations. He stresses that you should only include genuine and supportive people in your life that helps to promote your ultimate success.

As of August 2008, David departed the world of brick and mortar, and accepted the role as Head of School for the Texas Virtual Academy (TXVA) powered by K12. This highly-innovative online program serves students from third to 11th grade. Students come from diverse backgrounds and have various ability levels.

According to David, his 19 years in education has been a fast-paced, yet rewarding experience. Throughout this time, he has enhanced his spiritual and professional growth. He is always seeking ways to enhance the lives of young people, and is thankful for every day that he is able to make a difference.  Whether at school or in the community, David is committed to stressing the idea of how one can develop the mind and build one's character. His philosophy is to always strive to achieve whatever you want in life, and be willing to accept the consequences, whether good or bad.
